Young distance runner Violet Owen, from Queenborough, smashed the Little Athletics Tasmania state under-13 1500m record.  “Violet ran the event in 4min45.4sec and the record was 4min59.4sec, so she beat it by exactly 14 seconds,” Little Athletics Tasmania president Brett Johnstone said.  “To take 14 seconds off a record is a phenomenal achievement by a phenomenal athlete.”

More than 300 of the state’s best young athletes converged on Hobart’s Domain Athletics Centre for the first Little Athletics Tasmania State Series meet of the season.  The series features three meets around Tasmania for Little Athletics members to test themselves against the best in the state.
